Returning to old ways

I took this photo a few weeks ago, and in a couple of days the city will be treated to a host of such men and women. Dressed in their uniforms, showing off their weapons and having the President  praise them to the heavens.

The sad part is three years on since the end of the war and these men and women continue to stand around  not leading a normal life. The fighting maybe over, but the conflict seems far from resolved. In Colombo we are treated to what is only a miniature aspect of what is seen in the former war zones. Armed soldiers waiting in anticipation of a threat that for some reason the “higher powers” refuse to let go of.

We celebrated the day the checkpoints were removed, we celebrated the day the guns went silent, we celebrated the day when opposing forces walked away from the battlefield in the same direction. When will we celebrate the day when the uniforms are hung up and we start rebuilding?

I have been reading almost all the blogs in English on Kottu. I’ve seen some stupidest posts among them. This one of yours is the stupidest one I have seen for a quite some time. The stupidest part is the last paragraph. Think a little bit about it.

You say you are a journalist of one of the premiere English weekly in the country don’t you? (: (; (: (: (:

See a blog, for most people is a medium to express personal ideas. Your opinion, while welcome, means absolutely nothing to me. Rather than spending your time highlighting the “stupid” posts, try do something constructive. Cause, and I’m being very honest, your opinion and comments are far from useful

I fail to see how this blog post is stupid. It raises a serious point to ponder. If you do insist, however, that it is stupid, please elaborate as to why you think so. Petty comments are rather stupid, IMO.

Excrete parceled, packeted, and presented under any colourful label is offensively, Loathly, striking stinking.

You have not actually given your reasons, but I think you have proven how colorful words avoid an issue. Your criticism lacks substance, direction or any depth. In fact your criticism does not even explain your issue with the post.
A critic with no evidence to support himself is fairly useless

You raise a good point. The fighting is over but the conflict has not ended. It seems that there is an ever present danger of another uprising, so the military is still on high alert.

Should we be asking why this danger is present and what can done to remove it at the root, rather than watching for it to erupt again?

They keep reminding us to remain vigilant, but as you said nobody questioned what the root cause if for this need to remain vigilant
